A horse just freaked out, it was named 1000 Words, and just got scratched. Less horses on the field means less competitors to everyone’s favorite, Tiz the Law. But I’m not boring, I’m betting on AP Honor. And by betting I mean I got thrown into a betting circle with my grandmother and all her old lady friends.
Listen, if AP Honor wins (and that horse has a shot), I make 100 smackeroos. I need all these ladies retirement dollars, otherwise I have to fork over 10 bucks... betting is only fun if you win...

Update: I was watching on this browser but it only lets you see the pregame. Didn’t get to watch the actual race and apparently my grandmother’s horse won (not Tiz the Law).
My horse didn’t even make the top 3... and n ow I owe her 10 bucks.

In my first “real” job, there was an office pool betting on some college spree of games, maybe March Madness, maybe something else; I have no idea. Entry fee was like a dollar or several and there was this square matrix and I was (supposedly) randomly placed on a square with some obscure team like Saint Joseph playing some other obscure team I have zero recollection. Well, Saint Joseph won and I got $50. I think we ordered pizza that night.

I never got into basketball or fantasy teams. Betting on horses seems simpler, but still, winning a bracket can be real nice! What kind of pizza did you get?

It was kinda surreal to watch. There were still a ton of people there, and there were still a ton of people there who had no concept on how to use a mask. The pre- race talked a lot about the controversy surrounding the Kentucky state anthem, it’s a historical race... and one that I couldn’t profit off of.

Yeah, with lyrics that talk about “darkies” in every verse, that could be problematic. The state adopted the word “people” in its place, but not until 1986.

Y I K E S I knew the lyrics were changed, but not that recently. I don’t blame people for thinking it’s controversial, even if it’s a time honored derby tradition or whatever.

Had it o n for a few hours with the earlier races and what not. Man, horse racing dose nothing for me. Hours of lead up to a single lap and zero drama or excitement. Also are the jockeys a different breed of person? I’m concerned there’s some serious GMO going on with them.

I can understand why horse racing is tame from just a regular viewing standpoint, and had. Inot been thrown into this potential money pool I would’ve felt the same way. It’s all about gambling and making money, what do you think all the horse owners are doing?
